What is Fascial Stretch Therapy?
Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) is a type of stretching that targets not only the muscles, but the fascia, the connective tissue that surrounds muscles, bones, and joints. FST targets the entire joint and joint capsule, using traction to remove restrictions from movement and to stimulate lubrication, by gently pulling and moving the arms, legs, spine, and neck in a smooth motion through varying planes of movement. The gentle movement is stimulating and relaxing at the same time.
What are the Benefits of Facial Stretch Therapy?
-Improved Quality of Sleep
-Sense of Relaxation and Wellness
-Ease of Movement and reduced stiffness
-Increased Range of Motion
-Improved Muscular Balance and Symmetry
-Reduced Risk of Injury
-Improved Muscle Function
-Decreased Compression and Impingement in the Joints
What Should I Expect?
Your Fascial Stretch Therapist will look for imbalances in the body, as well as the source of those imbalances. First, they will warm up the joints and muscles with undulating stretching to maximize blood flow. Then, using techniques of slow undulating movement, traction (gently pulling to create space in the joint), and modified PNF (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation), synchronized with the breath, they will stretch the entire body. These techniques lengthen muscle, increase range of motion, and improve flexibility. It takes a few sessions to start to truly reap the benefits of FST, but even after your first session you will feel immediate benefits.
