What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a gentle and holistic form of stretching and manual hands-on therapy, that targets chronic pain and discomfort through restoring balance among different systems of the body by manipulating and strengthening the musculoskeletal framework. Osteopaths focus on the joints, muscles, and spine. Treatment aims to positively affect the body's nervous, circulatory, and lymphatic systems.

Manual Osteopaths use a combination of techniques, including joint mobilization like chiropractors (without the cracking!), soft tissue work like massage therapists, and they prescribe therapeutic exercises like physiotherapists.

What are the Benefits of Osteopathy?

Osteopathy can provide relief and treatment for a wide range of conditions. These include:

-Back pain, neck pain, and sciatica
-Foot, ankle, hip, and knee pain
-Tennis and golfer's elbow
-Postural problems due to pregnancy, sports injury, driving, or work strain Digestive issues

-Hand, shoulder, and elbow pain
-Tennis and golfer's elbow
-Jaw issues

What Should I Expect?

During the first session there will be a brief physical examination where you will be asked to demonstrate simple stretches and movements to help the Osteopath make an accurate analysis of your posture and mobility. Using highly trained techniques, the health of your joints, ligaments, and tissues will be assessed. A treatment plan will be proposed to meet your needs, which will include the number of sessions likely to be needed.

Dietary changes, home exercise programs, and lifestyle adjustments may also be suggested. The manipulation and hands-on work are gentle, but due to the physical work being carried out, you may experience mild soreness for the first 24 to 48 hours following the treatment.

The Osteopath will deploy a variety of techniques that include stretching, strengthening, joint work and manipulation, and soft tissue massage. The techniques are carried out in a slow, deliberate and fluid fashion that follow the rhythm of the breath. Many people find osteopathy treatments deeply relaxing and nourishing.
